Soft Skills in the Workplace
Soft Skills are about how you manage your relationships with others and workplace soft skills are valued by
organisations because people are working together to support business objectives.
Summary

There is a substantial volume of published international research which shows that employees with effective
soft skills capability are desired in the workplace. Soft skills improve the ability of people to relate to and engage with each other in an effective way. Effective soft skills are mostly about producing and successfully managing relationships at work. You can picture some of the important skill requirements to engage successfully with other people at work. Soft skills such as teamwork, communication, understanding how to work with people from different
backgrounds, leadership, how to negotiate effectively and many others.

In today’s increasingly challenging and changing business environment soft skills are going to assume an even greater importance as organisations re-group, re-structure and re-engineer their processes to maintain viability. Soft skills can’t be replaced by artificial intelligence, robotics and other modern technologies. So while it is recognised that machines will take over many jobs that are repetitive or routine in nature, the essential requirements for people to engage with each other will remain. In addition organisations will place an even greater emphasis on soft skills capability because these skills are also transferable across not just industries, but across borders.
